Baroque style starts in 1600. The first opera in the history: ORFEO by MONTEVERDI was performed this year. BACH dies in 1750. It is said that Baroque style finishes when Bach dies. At that moment his sons were composing music in a different, new style. This music will be considered Classicism style.
Baroque style lasts for 150 years. The music at the beginning is completely different from the music at the end of the period. For instance, in 1600 some composers like Peri, Monteverdi started investigating and experimenting with operas. However, in 1750 Handel's operas were already really complex.
In 1750, when Bach dies, he was the most important composer in the Baroque period. He had composed all kinds of music except operas.

Monteverdi, Handel, Vivaldi, Bach and many other men were good composers. But you must know that many women have written music and played instruments over the years as well. However as they were women they could not achieve fame, because men (fathers, brothers and husbands) imposed limits on their vocation for music.
